We are thrilled to be the recipient of Winspire’s third Donation Give-Away drawing of 2018!

Congratulations goes to Kevin S., President and Co-Founder of Cameron’s Crusaders based in Fitchburg, Mass. Their mission is to provide financial support to families in the New England region with a child facing injury or illness.

It’s our honor to be able to donate a “NYC Broadway Bundle” (travel and Broadway.com gift cards valued at over $1,000) for their use in an upcoming fundraiser.

After the drawing, we reached out to Kevin to learn more about this important cause and their fundraising strategies year round.

Supporting Families in Crisis

When a child is facing a long-term illness or accident, many families incur extreme medical expenses. Medication, procedures and necessary equipment is not always 100% covered by insurance companies. As families try to cope with short-term or even years of out-of-pocket medical expenses and everyday living costs. They often reach critical breaking points.

Not only do they risk losing their homes, stability, and hope, but also their ability to ensure their loved ones receive the vital care they need.

“Cameron’s Crusaders is here to help children and their families during difficult times. We provide funds and/or assistance to help with needs not covered by insurance, that would otherwise be a burden for the families,” Kevin says.

Charities That Help With Medical Bills

One way Cameron’s Crusaders assists families is by providing for tangible, often overlooked needs: gas cards; gift cards to local grocery stores, eateries or hospital cafes. We also provide payments to vendors, including paying for parking, utility bills, mortgage payments, homeowners insurance, overnight lodging, and auto repairs.

Fundraising Strategies

To support their mission, Cameron’s Crusaders hosts multiple fundraising events throughout the year.

“We hold a Comedy Show every October with a Silent Auction and 50/50 raffle,” Kevin shares. According to the Facebook page, the 3rd annual ‘Comics & Cocktails‘ will take place October 13 in Fitchburg.   

The rest of the year, Cameron’s Crusaders hosts Dine to Donate events at local restaurants. They receive a percentage of the diners’ checks, and holds raffles with donated baskets from followers or local businesses. They also run a concession stand during events at Gillette Stadium, home of the Patriots.

Learning with Winspire

“I have been following and reading your blog for 3 years,” Kevin says. “I have been able to get ideas and learn how to try different things at our events.”

Cameron’s Crusaders is very happy and honored to receive this donation from Winspire, they pick one nonprofit each quarter from the 12,800 nonprofits that follow their blog. We would like to thank all of the volunteers that have helped us from the start, our families and friends and most of all the Board of Directors that are always there to help out whenever needed. Without all of them we could not do what we do.
